Benefits of massage alongside chiropractic treatment
Massage is a great treatment to go along side your chiropractic adjustments especially deep tissue massage. Massage in its self has many benefits such as
- Relieve Lower Back Pain
- Ease Muscle Tension
- Reduce Depression and Anxiety
- Improved Functions of Daily Life
- Increased Circulation
- Treat Muscular Injuries and Surrounding Joints
- Alleviate Headaches
When you have an injury such as lower back pain, neck pain, upper back pain or sciatica the muscles will contract around the affected area to try and protect it and prevent any more damage from being done. This is something that they naturally do but doing this makes your muscles tight. A massage is a great way of easing the tension and releasing the muscles it also helps to get the blood flowing around the body and muscles so it can help with circulation.
Regular chiropractic adjustments can reduce joint restriction and inflammation, increase mobility, improve the function of your nervous system, and reduce pain.
Chiropractic is a skeletal treatment where as massage treats the muscles which tighten up to protect the skeleton and unless they are ‘relaxed’ will still fight against the adjustment.
A lot of people carry their stress around their neck which can cause headaches, in this case it is the muscles which need to be relaxed by massage techniques to benefit the patient. Unfortunately this is unlikely to happen just after one treatment so regular sessions are recommended.
Do I have a massage before or after a chiropractic treatment?
Massages before a chiropractic adjustment relaxes the muscles so the chiropractor can get a better adjustment. Although some patients prefer a massage after chiropractic treatment as they find it helps the bodies recovery. It is really down to personal preference but massage before an adjustment is generally better.
