Is it safe for babies and young children to have chiropractic treatment?
YES! People are always surprised when then see a baby or a young child coming into the clinic for a chiropractic treatment however it is 100% safe for all ages.
At what age can a baby see a chiropractor from?
A baby can be seen by a chiropractor from as early as a few days old.
Does the chiropractor adjust babies in the same way they adjust adults?
NO! The adjustments on a baby are a lot lighter. A babies body is very fragile so the chiropractor does not adjust them in the same way they would adjust an adult, they also don’t need to be adjusted in the same way. The doctor will generally use an activator which is a small, hand-held instrument which delivers a gentle impulse force to the spine with the goal of restoring motion to the targeted spinal vertebra or joint.
Why would a baby need to see a chiropractor?
There are many reasons a baby may need to see a chiropractor. Let’s start right at the beginning, firstly if the birth was distressing then the baby may have had a bumpy road coming into this world, this is a very traumatic thing not only for the mother but for the baby. The baby may of gotten stuck or come out in an awkward position, for example having an arm over their head. This can cause them to have a very stiff neck and shoulder. Because of this they may favour one particular side and the muscles won’t be working the way they should be. A chiropractor can help ease that tension enabling the baby to move freely and without pain or discomfort.
How many treatments do babies need?
How long is a piece of string? This completley depends on the reason the baby has come to see the chiropractor in the first place. However generally babies only need a few treatments at first then they go onto maintance as they grow. Maintance can be every month and gradually go up to every 6 months. This depends on the baby and the advice the chiropractor has given.
What conditions can a chiropractor treat in babies?
A chiropractor cannot treat conditions however they can help the symptoms of conditions such as: –
- Ear infections
- Digestive issues
